Brace expands randge to Dble "D" Click here to listen

I added (without solder) a standard Schilke brace to the Second Valve slide. The brace centers 1/8th inch below (towards valve) the male female joint. The immediate results were more centered sound, and a stable 2nd valve, The open notes were balanced in resistance and "feel" with the fingered notes.

I then played a few lines middle register High and then Super. Ending each time on the Double D. The sound was centered and compact and very easy on the chops. The brace eliminated the lack of a central core to the Schilke sound, while maintaining the crystal quality of the sound.

Listen to these as you read this. THIS RECORDING WAS DONE JAN 4, 2008 IN MY LIVING ROOM DIRECTLY TO MY LITTLE MACBOOK - SORRY ABOUT THE DIGITAL DISTORTION, MY COMPUTER MIKE WAS TURNED ALMOST ALL THE WAY DOWN, BUT THE SOUND STILL OVERPOWERED IT;)

This recording is done with my schilke and a Reeves Purviance P1. The recording on the home page was recorded with a Bach 43LT and a Stevens RS #2. The warm up exercises were recorded with the Stevens #2 and the Schilke with a combination of Warburton backbores. A 5, 6,and 10B*

Beware that if you add this brace to your horn you should not solder it in. It takes time to find just the right spot. It also takes time to evaluate the results. You will like the increased response in the high register, but you also trade off some of the highest and lowest partials in your timbre. You can offset this by using a little more open backbore.
